my little girl has taken to cuddling up in her crib to...books. She has stuffed animals. She has blankets. She prefers the book. I can only assume it is because when she wakes up in the morning, she already has her favorite toy - a book, as entertainment.

That is so cute! I love it when kids do quirky things like that, but then if you think about it, it really makes total sense like you said. For a while, my Asher slept with a hard plastic piggy bank. I never did figure out the "why" on that one.
Teach her to sleep with a medical text book and see if she is learning by osmosis. You might have a young Doogy Howser on your hands.
