Well, being the mom that I am, I made her earn her dress by doing all her chores. She had to do them all and that would earn her a star. She needed 10 stars. You'd think that would be 10 days, but no. It was a month. Lots of work and tears and work later, she earned that last star - the day before Halloween.
So that night, she went to bed and I thought, I want her to be really excited and surprised in the morning, so I hung the dress on her shelf. That way, when she woke up the first thing she would see would be the valued Rapunzel dress.
So the drama begins.
At 5:33 AM, I hear panic and fear coming from Miss A's room in the form of high pitch screams and crying. I quite honestly jumped out of bed and ran to her room. When I got to her, she was sitting up in bed, screaming, and I went to try and sooth her. This was the conversation:
"Honey, shh, it's okay. What's wrong?"
"Ahhh!!" as she points to the dress.
She starts sobbing. I turned around and what I saw about scared my pants off.
As it turns out, a light purple chiffon dress on a hanger plus a night light in a dark room makes a glowing floating dress that looked remarkably like the scariest ghost I've ever seen. It looked like a floating headless child. I quickly took the dress down, showed it to her that it was her princess dress, dropped it on the floor, and took my girl to snuggle her dad because the screaming and crying, at this point, had woken Miss E.
After comforting the babe, I returned to the four year old. She was now fine, but wide awake, on Halloween morning, at 5:45. I did finally get her to sleep again at 6:30.
Lesson learned. Never hang anything in a kids room.

I'm glad she still wore it after that trauma! It's a beautiful dress!
Oh man, I totally laughed out loud! I used to hang my school clothes on my canopy bed when I was in High School and promptly stopped when I drempt some creep thing was watching me sleep:) How funny. Wish we lived near you.
That is SO funny!! Except for the part where she was traumatized.
